Manner of the Week: Use please, thank you, and excuse me frequently.
I hope you all had a great weekend! We are off to a great start in Kindergarten! We are continuing to practice procedures in our classroom and school rules, while working on building stamina when we are working! We have started to practice center rotations that the students will do while I pull students in reading groups.
Mrs. Cormier, our district behavioral specialist has been coming into our classroom and presenting lessons each week! So far, the students have learned about being kind and helpful to fill other's buckets, erupting volcano mouths, and zones of regulation. My mouth is a volcano's lesson is all about raising your hand before you speak, even when you're really excited and it feels like your words are going to erupt! This week she talked about the zones of regulation and connected the lesson to the movie "Inside Out." She talked about always wanting to stay in the green, happy zone and trying to stay out of the red zone when you're feeling angry and upset. You might hear the students reference Growth Gretchen and Fixed Freddy and how we never give up and we always want to try to grow our brains.
In GoMath, we are wrapping up Chapter 1 this week. We have been learning about numbers 0-5. The students will be introduced to our classroom iPad lab and we will try to start ST Math! :) In our Wonders reading curriculum, we have been learning about what makes us special and focusing on letter sounds. Our sight words so far are "I, can" and this week we will be learning the! The students are doing great and we are having fun!!
Scholastic Book Order- I will be sending home our first Scholastic Book order this week! I will attach a note to the book order with our class activation code. Scholastic is a great way to build your child's library! There are many books for $1.00, and other very affordable selections.
