I can't believe we are starting the 4th quarter!! In Wonders, we are beginning Unit 8, where we will be learning about how to get "from here to there." Our essential question for the week is "What can help you go from here to there?" We will be learning the sight words me and here! We are continuing to work on 2-D and 3-D shapes in GoMath! The students are having a lot of hands-on learning with these chapters :).
Report cards will go home on Friday. Please return the yellow envelope and let me know if you have any questions on the report card! I LOVE spending each and every day with your child. It makes me SO sad thinking about only 10 weeks left of school!!
We will only be sending in 2 more book orders this year! Please look through the book orders with your student and help enhance their learning and love of reading at home! :) Book orders are due next Tuesday!

Today was full of St. Patrick's Day fun! The sneaky leprechaun came into our room and made a huge mess this morning! He left us some "luck" and started our day with lot of smiles! It was also Walker's birthday! Hooray!! At the end of our day, our class and the first grade classes had a very special visitor! The fire marshal came to tell us all about being a fire fighter, showed us his gear that keeps him safe, and answered great questions that the students had! Thank you so much for your time Jaime Fender...and all of the fire fighters who work so hard to keep us safe!!
Over the next few months, we will be having a junior field student from MSU-Billings in our room! The students (and me too!) have loved our time with Miss Fiedler so far! She is so sweet and helpful, and is going to make a wonderful teacher! :)
Hello everyone! My name is Addie Fiedler and I will be a junior field student in Mrs. Appel’s kindergarten class at Arrowhead Elementary for the next couple of months. I grew up on a ranch in the central part of Montana before moving to Billings to pursue a degree in elementary and special education. As a junior field student, I will be coming into Mrs. Appel’s classroom several times a week in order to prepare for my student teaching experience next fall. I am looking forward to working with and learning from all of the students within the classroom!
This week we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss week! We will be doing so many fun projects and reading activities! We will be continuing to focus on seasons in Wonders, and how the weather affects what we do. Our essential question is: How can you stay safe in bad weather? In math, we are still working with our teen numbers, while also reviewing addition and subtraction concepts. Along with our own classroom themed days, Arrowhead has dress up days for each day next week. Please help your child dress up next week! :)
Monday-wear any kind of hat
Tuesday-wear crazy socks (or mismatched shoes, socks, slippers, etc)
Wednesday-wear animal print
Thursday-comfy pajama day!
Friday-Arrowhead spirit day
We will also be diving into our next module of Project Lead the Way! Last week we did Jack and the Beanstalk. We are learning about structure and function, and will continue with The Three Little Pigs next week. The students will be working in groups to build a house out of "straw, sticks, or bricks." They are challenged to see if their structure can withstand the force of wind (fan).
For the Thursday morning helpers, I would love to have you come and help us build our structures. I have all of the materials, I just need a few extra hands to help with building and questions :)
I CANNOT believe it is already March. I am already sad about how little time we have together. I love spending time with your students, they fill my heart with so much love and joy! Thank you for sharing them with me :)

Last week we had so much fun learning about structure and function! We read Jack and the Beanstalk and discussed what the structure and function of the beanstalk was in the story. Our challenge was to build the tallest beanstalk we could using 10 pipe cleaners! The students showed great perseverance to create their structures. Way to go! :) Mr. Appel even got to join in the fun! The students loved meeting the "big giant!" :)
Thank you all for helping make our day so special and fun! I appreciate all of your help and donations! We are so lucky to have such wonderful families!
